42096 B Model VW New Beetle 1997

This 42096 B model of a 1997 VW Beetle is brilliantly designed by James Tillson capturing the smooth lines of the 1997 new VW Beetle.
With his permission I have modified the model, desgined a motorization version (see below) and created the step by step instructions.

 • Steering with working steering wheel
 • 4 wheel independent suspension with torsion bar on the rear axle
 • Openable bonnet, boot and doors
 • Working transverse fake engine with front wheel drive

 • Length 48.4 cm (19 inches)
 • Width 21.5 cm (8.5 inches)
 • Height 17.6 cm (6.9 inches)
 • Weight 1.13 kg (2.49 lb)

The professional step by step assembly instructions consisting of 356 steps in 195 pages are created with Bricklink Stud.io 2.0, here is an example of how the instructions look like:

I have spent a couple of 100's of hours on the modification of the model, design of the motorization (see below) and creation of the instructions. Hence, if you purchase the instructions I kindly request you not to share them. The set price is low so anybody that would like to build this model can afford to buy the instructions. Thank you.

Bonus model
This model is designed solely with bricks available in the 42096-1 Porsche 911 RSR set but is prepared to be easily motorized. Additional bonus instructions for motorization consisting of 32 steps in 28 pages are included at the end of the instructions document.
The following additional parts are required for the motorization:

 1. Two 20 tooth gears (18575)
 2. One 16 tooth gear (94925)
 3. 2 L motors
 4. 1 servo motor
 5. 1 IR receiver
 6. 1 battery box
 7. 1 remote control

Bonus model functions

 • Remote steering with working steering wheel
 • Remote front wheel drive with forward and reverse propulsion
 • 4 wheel independent suspension with torsion bar on the rear axle
 • Openable bonnet, boot and doors
 • Working fake engine

The motorized model is designed so it is very simple to exchange the batteries without having to disassemble the car.

The inventory includes all parts required regardless of which version you build (with exception of the motorization list above). This means that you will have parts over when building any of the two versions which is nothing to worry about.
