Play with LEGO and win $100!

Rebrickable will be hosting a month-long competition to encourage the submission of some great new MOCs. The nature of Rebrickable is to promote re-using your LEGO parts to build new stuff so this competition will focus on Alternate Builds. An Alternate Build is a MOC that uses only the parts from a single official LEGO set.

For this round, the set chosen is 6866-1 - Wolverine's Chopper Showdown. If you do not have this set, feel free to buy it via the Rebrickable links to help sponsor this competition! Or, you can make a purely digital model if you prefer. theskirrid has put together a starter LXF file with all the parts to help you get started!

Submit your Alternate Build MOCs via the Submit A MOC menu during the month of October 2013. At the end of the month, a poll will be taken in the forums to determine which MOC is the favourite.

Remember that all MOCs on Rebrickble must have building instructions when you submit them. These can be LEGO Digital Designer files, or simply step-by-step photos of the construction. If you need somewhere to host the files, you can use my other site Bricksafe to host them for free.

Don't forget to indicate the MOC is an alternate build of 6866-1 when you submit the MOC. Also please check that there is a 100% match for your parts to make the approval process easier. Click the link "Check Alternate Parts" which will attempt to build your MOC using only the set 6866-1. This should show 0 parts missing.

The winner will receive a gift certificate from their choice of either Amazon or eBay for the equivalent of AU$100 in their currency of choice.

  1. The MOC must be your own creation.
  2. You must only use parts from the 6866-1 set, including spare parts is ok. It does not have to use all the parts.
  3. You must have submitted your MOC before 31st October.
  4. Submissions can be talked about on the forum during the month, but voting will not start until EOM.
  5. Voting will take place from 1st to 7th November in this forum.
  6. A maximum of two submissions per designer will be considered for voting (the designer needs to nominate which two if they submit more).

I hope this will become the first of many monthly competitions. Future rounds and prize money will be determined by the success of this one.

Bricksafe doesn't accepts my bilding instruction (LDD)there is another mode to upload the instruction

Are you using Internet Explorer? I had problems uploading my LDD .lxf files to Bricksafe using IE, so I used Google Chrome instead.

The other day I was using Internet Explorer (IE) to upload an LDD .lxf file to Bricksafe, and thought that the file didn't upload. The "drag and drop" functionality doesn't work with IE; read the disclaimers at the top of the Bricksafe upload webpage. What I experienced was that, with IE, the Bricksafe upload screen didn't acknowledge success but LDD .lxf file DID make it into Bricksafe. Did you check Bricksafe to see if the .lxf file really isn't there? You could use Google Chrome or Firefox to upload your file to Bricksafe, and have fewer problems.
    • Did you figure it out?

At the top-right of the Rebrickable "MOC Alternate Build Competition - Win $100" webpage, you'll see a dropdown menu for MOCs --> Submit a MOC. Once you have posted your Building Instructions file and image file on Bricksafe.com , load those URLs into the "Submit a MOC" line items. While there, you will also be uploading your Parts List (via your LDD .lxf, L-Draw, or other file). Then, press the "Submit for Approval" button at the bottom of that input screen.

NB:- LXF revised, I grabbed it from Eurobricks, and it turned out to be a bit inaccurate. Re-built from scratch, re-upped, ready! I thought I'd save some work, but Meh.

So, for those (like me) who have already submitted contest entries, are we supposed to change our LDD .lxf file? What exactly was not correct in the original "starter" .lxf file that was posted? The new .lxf file has 204 bricks (instead of the starter's 209 bricks). Please advise.

I'm putting together a list right now and will let you know what parts have changed.
        • 6 years, 1 month ago DLuders (19K) MOC Designer
OK, I revised my entry (based on theskirrid's new "starter" LDD .lxf for the 6866 set). The MOC is basically the same form as before. I had one spare part.

I picked this set because 1. lots of users have it, 2. its not too big, 3. its different to the usual Creator alt builds, 4. its not easy! Be creative people, and earn my money :)

Anyone having a tip how to cure a stupid instruction generation in LDD, I have built a second alternate model but it's building the model in the most stupid way ever.
    • 6 years, 1 month ago theskirrid (83K) MOC Designer ADMIN
Using groupings will force LDD to do the instructions for that group as a lump. This helps.
  • 6 years, 1 month ago DLuders (19K) MOC Designer
I'm finished my 6866 Alternate too, and had no spare pieces left. It's been submitted for approval. Note that Part 50231 (the purple cape) is not in Bricklink or in Rebrickable, yet it is in LDD.

We use 522, an old LDraw number, Lego renumbered it ages ago.
  • 6 years, 1 month ago biodreamer (21K) MOC Designer PRO
I am done, when you get this kind of limited set you need to be fast or someone else will build something similiar. MOC is pending approval. I had one spare piece left...
  • 6 years, 1 month ago DLuders (19K) MOC Designer
Sounds like an opportunity! I've downloaded the LDD .lxf file and am trying some alternatives of this US$ 19.99 set. Work your mind and have fun for a chance to win AU$100 (equivalent to US$ 94.43)!

It's going to be hard to build a modular building out of this set, but I love a challenge.
  • 6 years, 1 month ago jantjeuh (60K) PRO
Cool idea, but not sure if that set is a great choice :P
